It is with great pleasure that we present the summary of the First Tbilisi International Congress on Dental Implantology, which was successfully hosted by GIA-Georgian Implantological Association, on Saturday 27th of April, 2013. The concept of this conference was created by Prof. Vladimer Margvelashvili the President of GIA and the members of organizing committee Dr. Galaktion Makhviladze, Dr. Mariam Margvelashvili and Dr. Zviad Tsikolia. The congress was held with the support of GSA –Georgian Stomatological Association, TSU – Tbilisi State University and Radix – Scientific Research Center.
The objective of the congress of dental implantology is to tighten contacts between the dentists of Georgia and Neighboring countries with the world implant dentistry. In fact, the congress welcomed professional dental implantologists as key-note speakers from around the world (Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Georgia), while the attendants were dental implantologists, PhD students, dental residents and dental students from Georgia, Armenia, Russian Federation (Chechnya) and India.
The congress is not a multidisciplinary conference, rather a very specific event that brought people in academia, research, industry and everyday practice together to offer a collaborative platform to address the emerging issues in modern implant dentistry. In addition, implant dentistry became popular in Georgia not so long ago and the Congress aims to popularize the field throughout the country and grow new generation of dental implantologists.
The day of Congress incorporated lectures as well as workshops. Additionally, small exhibition was arranged so that leading Implant Manufacturers (OSSTEM Implant, Alpha-Bio, Alfa-Gate, MIS, Euro Teknika) could present their newest technologies.
Some of the attendants joined us not only for the Congress but for the whole three days of learning as in affiliation with GIA Congress a theoretical seminar was held together with “MIS Georgia” on Friday, 26th of April 2013. Three independent Hands On courses were also organized on Sunday, 28th of April, which was the third study day. One of the Master-Classes was held by MIS Georgia, the second one by Alfa-Gate and the third one by GIA in association with OSSTEM Implant discussing the modern concepts of Sinus-Lift.
We strongly believe that together with learning and gaining experience, the congress on dental implantology will promote integration of Georgian implantologists into the world implantology. Consequently the professionalism will be increased and field of dental implantology popularized in the country.
We truly believe that GIA will continue organizing the Tbilisi International Congress on Dental Implantology annually, while this summary of the first congress will be an important reference source for management of future congresses.
I would like to once again thank all conference attendees. I would particularly like to thank those conference attendees who travelled large distances to attend the conference. I would also like to express my appreciation to the Key Note Speakers, GIA, GSA, TSU, Radix for their significant contributions to this event.
