Dear colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I present the summary of 11th Congress of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) dentists.
The Congress of CIS Dentists unites NDAs (National Dental Associations) of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan to promote continuing dental education and professional advancement of dentists and dental students of these countries.
I was a dental student of Tbilisi State University when I first attended the Congress of CIS dentists in 2007, Kusadasi, Turkey. It was then that I assisted Dr. Sergey Radlinsky on one of his Master-Classes.
It took me 6 years to be invited to the same Congress of CIS Dentists as a key-note speaker and a moderator of the symposium of “Innovations in Therapeutic Dentistry”.
The above mentioned, 11th Congress of CIS dentists took place on May 15-17 2013 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The congress allowed introduction of new technologies into treatment and management and creation of socially meaningful dental programs for certain regions. The special emphasis of the congress was on preventive measures and primary prophylaxis of dental diseases.
The lecture that I presented, entitled “Current Achievement of Adhesive Dentistry” was based on my Doctoral Research conducted in the University of Florence and Siena. Additionally, I made a small speech for the Symposium of “Oral Surgery and Dental Implantology” on the specificities of oral hygiene for the patients with dental implants. Both of the presentations were successful and caused interesting discussion with the attendees.
Together with the scientific program, a meeting of the working group “Integration of European Regional Organization of the Federation Dentale Inertnationale” was also organized. The fundamental idea of “Integration of ERO-FDI” the working group is to unite political, economical and informational interests of countries-members of ERO-FDI in order to improve dental care and reduce oral-related morbidity within population. Such integration allows its members to achieve maximum efficacy in the field of education as well as clinical practice. The meeting was attended by the presidents of the NDAs of CIS countries together with the honorary guests FDI President Dr. Orlando Monteiro da Silva and FDI Past President. Dr. Michele Aerden.
Concurrently to the Congress a dental exhibition was also held in Almaty. It was nice to interact with our Georgian colleagues Dr. Natia Rusadze and Inga Meurmishvili, representing dental manufacturers Dentsply and Colgate-Palmolive respectively.
I would like to thank the head of the congress organizing committee, Dr. Saule Yesembayeva for the invitation and warm welcome. Also, congratulate her with the successful Congress! And in the end I encourage our Georgian colleagues to join the next congress of CIS Dentists that will be held in Yerevan, Armenia.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mariam Margvelashvili, DDS, MSc, PhD
